Kaddish is a tremendous merit and source of elevation for the soul
One of the most sacred rituals observed by all Jews throughout the generations is the practice of reciting the Kaddish prayer for those who have passed on.
Kaddish is customary recited for eleven months after death, and thereafter, each year on the yahrzeit (anniversary) of the passing. It is a tremendous merit and source of elevation for the soul.
The ideal preference is that the children of the deceased recite Kaddish for their parents, for the first eleven months after the passing. When this is not possible or as a supplement or safeguard to that, another person can be hired to do so. Contact the Rabbi to discuss this. One time-honoured custom is to donate money to a charity in memory of the deceased.
Below is the Kaddish prayer for you to recite with a podcast of the Kaddish:
Yitgaddal v’yitkaddash sh’may rabbah
B’almah dee-v’ra chiru-tay
Uv’chay-yay de-chol beit yisra-el
Ba-agalah uvizman kareev;
Y’hey sh’mey rabbah m’varach
L’olam ul’olmey almah-yah.
Sh’mey de kudshah b’reech hu
L’eylah min kol birchatah v’shiratah
Y’heh sh’lamah rabbah min sh’mayah
V’chay-yim alenu v’al kol yisra-el
O-seh shalom bimromav
Hu ya-aseh shalom
Alenu v’al kol yisra-el
Exalted and hallowed be His great Name. (Congregation responds: “Amen.”)
Throughout the world which He has created according to His will. May He establish His kingship, bring forth His redemption and hasten the coming of His Moshiach. (Cong: “Amen.”)
In your lifetime and in your days and in the lifetime of the entire House of Israel, speedily and soon, and say, Amen.
(Cong: “Amen. May His great Name be blessed forever and to all eternity, blessed.”)
Blessed and praised, glorified, exalted and extolled, honoured, adored and lauded be the Name of the Holy One, blessed be He. (Cong: “Amen.”)
Beyond all the blessings, hymns, praises and consolations that are uttered in the world; and say, Amen.(Cong: “Amen.”)
May there be abundant peace from heaven, and a good life for us and for all Israel; and say, Amen. (Cong: “Amen.”)
He Who makes peace in His heavens, may He make peace for us and for all Israel; and say, Amen.
